Craig is a third generation horseman from Ontario, Canada, with almost thirty years of experience developing horses and riders.
Craig moved to California with his wife Anne and started Clermont Equestrian in 2008. They spent years converting it from an empty, dilapidated facility and into a thriving community of dressage, jumping and pleasure riders. To provide a better life for their daughters, they relocated to Bainbridge Island, WA in 2015.
Craig has a degree in economics from the University of Guelph and loves teaching. Craig has also designed and developed several software decision support systems for banks and large companies.
Craig’s North American training influences are largely from training with and competing with several Canadian masters, including Hugh Graham and Ian Millar. Craig’s European training influence is from Steve Smith of Great Britain and Gold Medalist Piet Raijmakers of Holland. A third riding and training influence stems from practice of the soft martial arts Aikido and i-chuan.
We offer hunter jumper training, focusing on jumpers.
Craig has almost thirty years experience selecting and training show jumpers with an emphasis on low grid-work to safely build up technique and confidence gradually. Craig’s style is a blend from some of the world’s best riders, including two-time World Cup champion Ian Millar on ‘Big Ben’ and double gold medalist Piet Raijmakers of the Netherlands on ‘Ratina Z’.
Clients show at several A Circuit shows per year, though we also go to several schooling shows in the Seattle Area.
