About

It goes without saying that we’re crazy about horses. But Clermont Equestrian at Cypress Ridge is about something much bigger.

Our mission is to create a place where nature, horses, and people become the best they can be.

Clermont Equestrian at Cypress Ridge is the premier horse facility on the San Francisco Peninsula. We share our extensive experience and passion for the sport and art of horseback riding by offering superior care of horses, top-notch facilities, elite training, an inspiring natural environment with phenomenal Pacific views, and a heck of a lot of fun.

We attract the area’s best competitive riders and newcomers alike. We warmly welcome everyone who shares our respect for great friends and the great outdoors. And, of course, anyone crazy about horses.

CRAIG CLERMONT

Craig Clermont is a fourth generation horseman and an experienced competitor at the Grand Prix and hunter division. He trained with two-time World Cup Champion Ian Miller and Olympic Gold Medalist Pete Raymakers.

Craig competed in several World Cup Qualifier Grand Prix classes throughout Canada as well as the Spruce Meadows Masters. Blending the best of North American and European riding styles with several years practicing Aikido and other martial arts has evolved a unique training style based on principles that are easy to learn, yet extremely powerful and effective. Craig graduated with a degree in economics from the University of Guelph in Canada and worked in the software industry for several years after his Grand Prix years in Canada. The serendipitous opportunity to own Clermont Equestrian at Cypress Ridge gave him the chance to pass on his experience to equestrians who are serious about learning. Craig has two young daughters, Natalia and Alexandra, with his wife, Anne—whom he met through, of course, horses.

ANNE CLERMONT

Clermont Equestrian at Cypress Ridge is the realization of Anne’s lifelong desire to surround herself with nature and horses.

Born in Krakow, Poland and raised in Canada where she trained in dressage as a young rider, Anne jumped at every opportunity to work with horses. She got her degree in animal biology with a specialization in animal nutrition and horse management from the University of Guelph in Canada. Her experience includes four years with top equine research experts at the Equine Research Center in Guelph, Canada, as well as the Large Animal Clinic at the Ontario Veterinary College, and working with IVF in horses. In addition, she has worked in nutrition at the Metro Toronto Zoo, animal behavior research, cholesterol research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and cancer research at Genentech.

All of this experience gives Anne a vast knowledge of horse biology. But it’s her compassion for animals that truly translates into superior, personalized care for the horses at Clermont Equestrian at Cypress Ridge.

Anne not only feels privileged to care for horses for a living. She’s also thrilled to have a beautiful place where her two daughters can develop a similar love of animals while breathing lots of fresh air.

WILLIAM F. MCCLENAHAN

William F. McClenahan founded Cypress Ridge Ranch in 1961. Introduced to beautiful Peruvian Pasos horses in Panama, he bought the Ranch to pursue his new passion. He found the site to be a spectacular location with an ideal temperature for training horses year-round.

Over the years, Mr. McClenahan added barns, paddocks, and arenas to accommodate the growing number of horses. He became active in the Peruvian Paso Association and helped make the breed known to the US horse community. Then in 1991, he sold his Peruvian Pasos and began leasing the Ranch.  Craig and Anne Clermont consider it an honor to keep it true to the beauty that first attracted Mr. McClenahan to Cypress Ridge.
