About

Our mission is to create the premiere equestrian training center in the San Francisco Peninsula -
one that is professionally managed and a pleasant place to spend a weekend.

CRAIG CLERMONT

Craig is a third generation horseman, with over 15 years experience developing and riding horses and for the Grand Prix arena. Craig moved to California nearly ten years ago from Toronto, Ontario, Canada with his wife Anne and started Clermont Equestrian in 2007 with the goal of making it the premiere training center in the Peninsula.

Craig has a degree in economics, started a software company, and has two daughters, Natalia and Alexandra ages 4 and 8.

Craig's North American training influences are largely from training with and competing with several Canadian masters, including Hugh Graham and Ian Millar. Craig's European training influence is from Steve Smith of Great Britain and Gold Medalist Piet Raymakers of Holland. A third influence stems from practice of Aikido, from which Craig has adapted exercises to help riders with balance and smoothness.

ANNE CLERMONT

Clermont Equestrian is the realization of Anne’s lifelong desire to surround herself with nature and horses.

Born in Krakow, Poland and raised in Canada where she trained in dressage as a young rider, Anne jumped at every opportunity to work with horses. She got her degree in animal biology with a specialization in animal nutrition and horse management from the University of Guelph in Canada. She also holds an MBA degree from Saint Mary's College of California. Her experience includes four years with top equine research experts at the Equine Research Center in Guelph, Canada, as well as the Large Animal Clinic at the Ontario Veterinary College, and working with IVF in horses. In addition, she has worked in nutrition at the Metro Toronto Zoo, animal behavior research, cholesterol research at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and cancer research at Genentech.

All of this experience gives Anne a vast knowledge of horse biology. But it’s her compassion for animals that truly translates into superior, personalized care for the horses at Clermont Equestrian at Cypress Ridge.

Anne not only feels privileged to care for horses for a living. She’s also thrilled to have a beautiful place where her two daughters can develop a similar love of animals while breathing lots of fresh air.

WILLIAM F. MCCLENAHAN

William F. McClenahan founded Cypress Ridge Ranch in 1961. Introduced to beautiful Peruvian Paso horses in Panama, he bought the Ranch to pursue his new passion. He found the site to be a spectacular location with an ideal temperature for training horses year-round.

Over the years, Mr. McClenahan added barns, paddocks, and arenas to accommodate the growing number of horses. He became active in the Peruvian Paso Association and helped make the breed known to the US horse community. Then in 1991, he sold his Peruvian Paso and began leasing the Ranch.  Craig and Anne Clermont consider it an honor to keep it true to the beauty that first attracted Mr. McClenahan to Cypress Ridge.
